Barr has been providing environmental support to a major petroleum corporation and entities it has acquired since 2002. In 2018, the company purchased a crude oil system and asked us for assistance integrating the new assets into its environmental management systems and processes. We worked on various environmental programs and activities for multiple crude-oil-storage facilities; tasks included:
Performing a regulatory gap assessment
Identifying and documenting regulatory applicability
Creating a compliance calendar of environmental obligations
Integrating assets and data into the company's environmental management processes and compliance tracking
Integrating field personnel and environmental contractors into corporate environmental practices and training
Supporting day-to-day environmental compliance, contractor management, permitting, and management-of-change (MOC) reviews
Updating plans and supporting permit transfers
Generating necessary reports
Conducting environmental inspections as SPCC monthly inspections while working to train company staff to take over inspection duties
Supporting ongoing correspondence with regulatory agencies and resolution of compliance issues
To help ensure seamless transition and asset integration, we prepared a compliance action plan for each facility that summarized the applicability of environmental programs, identified and summarized compliance obligations, and clearly described responsibilities for environmental, operational, and management staff.
